Why firms choose us
Senior legal marketers who've been in the room when the strategy mattered. We've seen what survives partner pushback, and what doesn't.
-
We've been in the room
Our leadership team spent years running marketing inside law firms before founding Toro. We've sat through the partner meetings, watched the BD plan get diluted, and seen what happens when marketing doesn't have a partner sponsor. We bring that to every engagement.
-
Senior thinking, not a junior consultant with a template
A senior legal marketer leads every engagement. The person in the room with you is the person doing the thinking. No analyst layer, no associate writing the recommendations.
-
We commit to a position
Strategy that hedges is useless. We tell you what we think and why, and we'll defend it. You can disagree, that's the point of the conversation. What you won't get is a 60-page deck that ends in "it depends."

How do I know whether to start with a Call, a Focused engagement, or a Firm one?
The Call is for a single question or a sounding-board conversation. Focused suits one practice, one partner, or one strategic decision. Firm is for setting or resetting the marketing strategy across a multi-practice firm. If you're not sure, start with a conversation and we'll tell you which one fits, or whether none of them do.
-
Can we start small and scale up later?
Yes. If a Focused engagement uncovers more than its scope can handle, we'll tell you, and you can extend or move up to a Firm engagement. The work already done carries into it, so nothing is wasted.
-
We already have a strategy. Can you just pressure-test it?
Often that's the most valuable version of the work. If that's what you need, let's talk it through and we'll put together a custom quote. Typically it runs as a Firm engagement scoped as a review: we interview, research, and pressure-test what you have, then come back with what's working, what isn't, and what we'd change.
-
Do you handle the implementation, or only the thinking?
Both, but separately. Strategy and advisory is the thinking. Once the strategy is set, you can run it yourself, hand it to your in-house marketer, or engage us to deliver it through our other services, whether that's Fractional CMO & team, campaigns, a website, or brand. The strategy isn't tied to using us for delivery.
-
How does payment work?
Payment is upfront. If you need a different structure, we'll work it out during the proposal.
-
Who actually leads the work?
A senior legal marketer, not a project manager or a junior consultant. That's Paul Evans, our Managing Director, and the person you meet at proposal is the person leading the work.
-
What do you need from us to make this work?
Honest interviews, access to the right people, and someone on your side who'll own the strategy once it's set. A strategy can be sound and still go nowhere if nobody inside the firm carries it. That's the most common reason good thinking ends up filed and forgotten. We'll tell you upfront who we need to talk to and what we need from you, and we'll flag early if the buy-in isn't there, because that's what decides whether a strategy gets used.
-
How much of our time will this take?
For a Call, ninety minutes plus the time to read the summary. For Focused, expect a kick-off, three or four interviews of about an hour each, a working session on the draft, and a final presentation. For Firm, more interviews and one or two presentations to your executive or partner group. We know you're billing, so we won't fill the time for the sake of it.
-
Is the engagement confidential?
Yes. Everything you tell us, and everything we learn interviewing your partners, staff, clients, and referrers, stays between us. We agree the interview list with you and brief everyone on what the conversation is for. Where we speak to clients or referrers, you sign off on who we approach before we make contact. Nothing leaves the engagement without your say-so.
-
Will we get a deck or a written document?
A document. Decks are for presenting; documents are for using. The Firm engagement includes one or two presentations to executives or partners, and we'll produce a deck for those. But the strategy itself lives as a written document you can read, share, and refer back to.
-
Can we share the finished work with our partners or board?
Yes, that's what it's for. The work is yours. We're happy to present it ourselves, or give you what you need to present it internally.
